This was a green house wedding styled shoot created and photographed by Taylor L Czerwinski of TLC Wedding Photography. The intention for the shoot was to discover more about the niches and styles of wedding photography.
First let’s just identify what “Documentary-Style” actually means. Documentary wedding photography is the new trend that’s all about keeping it real. Forget the stiff, posed shots—this style captures the raw, unfiltered moments that make your day unique. Photographers focus on the genuine emotions and spontaneous interactions between you, your family, and friends. It’s all about telling your story as it naturally unfolds, creating a collection of memories that are authentic and timeless. Couples are loving this approach for its ability to showcase the true essence of their celebration.
On the other hand, editorial wedding photography takes a different route. Inspired by high-fashion magazines, this style is all about creating stunning, stylized images that look like they belong on the pages of Vogue. It’s a more orchestrated approach, where the photographer carefully plans each shot, often incorporating dramatic lighting, striking poses, and impeccable styling. Editorial photography aims to create a series of visually breathtaking images that highlight the glamour and elegance of the day.
While documentary wedding photography is about capturing the natural, unscripted moments, editorial wedding photography focuses on producing polished, artful shots. The former offers a heartfelt narrative of the day, while the latter provides a curated collection of standout images. Both styles have their own unique appeal, and many couples are now choosing to blend the two, ensuring their wedding album is both emotionally rich and visually stunning.
In short. Yes! While it isn’t initially undershoot that these two styles of photography could go hand in hand, I do believe they can. This styled shoot is a great example on how to demonstrate giving the couple a candid and laid-back (unstyled) experience while having a more editorial eye in camera.
For you as the couple, it is important to give an experience that doesn’t actually feel like you’re on set of a huge photoshoot. Rather, it’s about being in the moment and being together. You just got hitched! You absolutely should enjoy your day vs spending hours taking photos away from friends and family.
Seriously. We captured all these different looks around the nursery in just 45 minutes!! We explored the property and made time to play in the plants and feel the magic of nature all around us.
