I spent a week in Paris photographing a wonderful women’s retreat where wandering and capuring the city felt endless. The city was beautiful, full of life. Each corner held a new surprise.
After many days of walking, all I wanted was to sit at a park. I came across a lovely couple resting at it’s center around the most beautiful fountain infront of Hotel Louvois Paris. They were enjoying each other’s company, laughing and talking. The moment felt special. I couldn’t resist capturing it.
I pulled out my favorite camera. It’s a Pentax k1000 35mm model, and it feels like I’m looking at a movie in real time. It’s light and I love the way it lets me connect with a given moment.
I felt nervous, but I approached them anyway. I thought, I’m in Paris – documenting love is part of it, too. After I asked their permission, I raised the camera and I focused on the moment. Laying down together and he, still talking on the phone while me, a complete stranger started photographing them. I wanted to tell their story with only a single roll. The light was soft, creating a warm glow around them. Everything clicked into place and while in casual wear, the setting was so romantic. The perfect city vibe.
In that moment, my goal was to show the beauty of love unscripted. No plan and with broken english – we just had fun together. The magic of street photography (my favorite kind) shines when you catch life as it is.
This couple reminded me of the heart of Paris. Their tangling in closeness of one another echoed the feeling of the city. It’s those little moments that make life beautiful. I hope my photo shows how love can be found anywhere.
After taking these shots, I felt satisfied. It was more than a pretty picture. It was a glimpse into their world. I love moments like this—small, yet full of meaning.
Paris- I LOVE YOU!
